The Flavor and The Story

Once you’ve entered the doors at Church & Market, you’ll never want to leave.

The Kavalauskas family of the original Spanky’s as well as Tavern on 6th have once again
demonstrated that they are some of the best in the local hospitality game with their newest
project.

Named after the historic street names of 7th Avenue and 56th Street, Church & Market has
breathed new life into the property that once housed Pazzo, Chicken & Donuts, and The
Downtown’r.

The massive interior restoration has brought the building back to its historic beauty and charm
while adding modern flair that feels somehow both classy and comfortable at the same time.

While the space is more gathering and events space than restaurant, the Kavalauskas family
has recruited some of the best culinary professionals in the area who have put together a
creative daily menu as well as unique and tasty event offerings.

The team is led by Kenosha kitchen royalty, Eusevio (Chevo) Villegas.

If you don’t know his name, you likely know his food. He has been part of the leadership team at
some of the best restaurants in the city for the last 10 years and has earned countless industry
accolades while capturing the hearts and respect of restaurant pros all around the city.

While there are plenty of creative and savory offerings on the new Church & Market menu, one
of the absolute “must haves” is on the sweeter side.

The PB&J beignets are… magnificent.

I ordered this dish without really asking any questions or thoroughly reading the description and
thought I’d be getting some sort of doughnut structure filled with peanut butter and jelly…
something run of the mill.

What actually came out of the kitchen was the best surprise I could have gotten.

The beignets are classic, fresh fried sweet dough covered in powdered sugar and served with
sauces to replicate the sweet/savory experience of a classic PB & J when dipped.

The beignets are served warm with a crispy edge and soft center that would make them a great
dessert all on their own but when combined with the thinned and dippable peanut butter sauce
and fresh made raspberry coulis (a sweet, smooth puree) this dessert is elevated to something
worth a trip all on it’s own.

The PB&J Beignets are available daily for a very reasonable $9

Church & Market is currently open for dine-in and carry-out seven days a week. Their website is
still under construction but the current menu and daily information can be found on their
Facebook Page.
