Kenosha County is located in the southeastern corner of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Its population in 2019 was estimated to be 169,561, making it the eighth most populous county in Wisconsin. The county is named after the county seat, Kenosha, the fourth largest city in Wisconsin.

SOMERS — Kenosha County Parks will host its annual Picnic in the Park celebration this Saturday (Aug. 20) at Petrifying Springs Park, County Executive Samantha Kerkman announced.

The day will be filled with family-friendly activities including live music, interactive kids’ activities, bounce houses, fireworks, and concessions aimed to raise awareness and educate the public on the value of parks.

“This is an event that’s truly for the community — another highlight of a busy summer in Kenosha County,” Kerkman said. “It will be a perfect day to come out, enjoy some fun with the family, and hear some great live music.”

Programming for children will include bounce houses from Blue Sky Inflatables, young child activities, and interactive activities by local nonprofits.

Failure to Launch

In addition, Kenosha County Parks will host food truck vendors as part of the Traveling Food Truck Series in conjunction with the Petrifying Springs Biergarten.

The Ethan Keller Group will kick off the event at 4 p.m., playing a blend of folk, blues, and rock with funk, jazz, and hip-hop. Headlining Picnic in the Park at 6:30 p.m. is Failure to Launch, 2021 winner of Shepherd Express’ Best of Milwaukee for best cover/tribute band.

The festivities will come to an end with a fireworks show starting at dusk.

“There is a lot of beauty and a lot of activities available close to home in our county parks.”

– Matthew Collins, Kenosha County Parks Director

Petrifying Springs Park is located at 5555 Seventh St. (Highway A) in the Village of Somers.

Western Kenosha County Transit will provide shuttle services for visitors to the Biergarten and parking areas. Additional parking and shuttle services will be available at University of Wisconsin-Parkside Parking Lots B and C in the Rita Lot.

Kenosha County Parks Director Matthew Collins said Picnic in the Park is a great opportunity to discover — or rediscover — what the county’s parks have to offer.

“There is a lot of beauty and a lot of activities available close to home in our county parks,” Collins said. “We hope you’ll stop out and see us — this Saturday, and any time year-round.”
