Steven Edward Sieghart passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023. He was 57 years old.
Renate and Richard Sieghart welcomed Steve to their family on May 29, 1965. Growing up with his sister Eva, his brother Mike and his loving parents, Steve enjoyed playing basketball and excelled as a baseball pitcher.
Steve was a husband, a dad, a cop, a cook, a welcoming host, and an unfailing source of support for everyone around him.
He met his wife Jessica in 7th grade on the bus to Gemini Junior High in Niles, IL. Steve and Jessica were in school together through their senior year in high school and were surprised to meet again a few years later at the Skokie Police Department where Steve was an officer and Jess joined the dispatch team. Coworkers and friends say they knew early on that this was a perfect match. Steve and Jessica married on May 16, 1992 and created a picture-perfect family with four wonderful children and seven grandchildren.
Steve served the Skokie Police Department as an officer from 1989 until his retirement in 2012. Police work was the perfect job for Steve’s fundamental sense of right and wrong, his compassionate heart, and his remarkable people skills. These same characteristics made Steve a loving and devoted husband and father and an outstandingly reliable friend.
Steve enjoyed cooking. His mostaccioli was so good, no restaurant could ever match it. And his shrimp dish was legendary. Steve’s kitchen expertise is evidenced by the full tower of colorful, enameled cast-iron pots and pans that he used before anyone else even knew what they were. When you entered his home as a guest for many holidays and celebrations, Steve welcomed you with your choice of cocktail and some fun conversation in the kitchen while he stirred and seasoned and finished the preparation for the amazing feast you were about to enjoy.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jessica (Insley) Sieghart; his children, Ariana (Steven) Stroud, Samantha (Vanessa) Mann, Erica (Joseph) Disclafani, and Daniel Sieghart; his grandchildren, Carter, Emmy, Taylor, Declan, Calix, Reagan, and Reese; his mother, Renate (Eicke) Sieghart; his sister, Eva Riddle; his sister-in-law, Pamela (Dave) Krueger and his brother-in-law, Thomas (Ann) Cline; his nieces and nephews, Adam (Rosemarie), Julianna (Michael), Lana (Jon), David, Alex (Kelly), McKenzie, Allie, Logan, and Piper; and his mother-in-law, Penelope Cline.
He was predeceased by his younger brother Mike and his father Richard. We take heart in the knowledge of their loving reunion.
Memorial services honoring Steven’s life will be held privately.
