Roger M. Martin, 80, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at his home with his wife at his side.
Born in Kenosha, on February 11, 1941, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Bonofiglio) Martin. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he grew up in the Columbus Park neighborhood, was educated in local schools, and attended Gateway Technical College.
Roger served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on September 22, 1966. During his service, he received many medals. On November 17, 1965, he was wounded in the battle of Ia Drang Valley and received two Purple Heart medals.
On June 24, 1967, he married Carole Megaro at Nativity of our Lord Catholic Church in Chicago.
Roger was a machinist and over the years worked for Leblanc, American Motors, and Pulera Auto Body. After retirement, he volunteered his time at Atlas Gym and Firehouse Performance in Kenosha. He was a member and volunteer at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, and Kenosha D.A.V. Chapter 20. He enjoyed gardening, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, classic muscle cars – especially his Chevelle, and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Carole; six children, Joseph (Stephanie) Martini, Anthony (Keri) Martin, Nicole (Angie H.) Martin, Marisa (Dave) Levy, Christopher Martin, and Karmella (Jeff) Schmitz; 11 grandchildren, Sarah, Gina, Angela, Gabrielle, Caitlynn, Tony, Joey, David, Jack, Mario, and Manny; three great-grandchildren, Samuel, Lillyana, and Vivian; a brother, Peter F. (Carol) Martin, Jr.; and a sister, Judith (James) McClutchy. He is further survived by many other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Donald Martin.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 27th, at Proko Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, June 28th, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 1919 54th Street, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. concluding with full military honors. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the Ia Drang Valley Scholarship, 302 N. Main Street Copperas Cove, TX 76522, would be appreciated by the family.
