Osanna Kalvonjian, 97, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 28, 2022 at Froedtert South St. Catherine’s Medical Center Campus.
She was born on January 15, 1925 to the late Khachig and Siranoush (Ekezian) Mgrdichian in Detroit, MI. She was educated in the schools of Detroit and worked as a secretary for the Department of Defense during WWII.
On July 7, 1946 in Detroit, she married Harry Kalvonjian, the love of her life. They established their household together in Kenosha, and were blessed with three children over the next 22 years. Harry preceded her in death on March 8, 1978.
Osanna was a devout member of St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church in Racine, and was powered by her strong faith. She was also a 79-year member of the Armenian Relief Society.
Throughout her life, Osanna enjoyed a constant thirst for knowledge, always eager to take classes and expand her education. She was an avid reader and looked forward to the daily newspaper, often clipping articles that she thought her kids would like. One of her favorite expressions was “your health is your wealth” and she lived her life with the ambition of being as healthy as possible. Some of her many hobbies included sewing, cooking classic Armenian delicacies, listening to music, and attending concerts. She was always quick to help those in need, making countless sacrifices along the way. She gently reminded everyone to see the good in people, and exercised that belief with her beautiful and abundantly positive attitude. Osanna’s greatest joy was her family, and with two sons and two grandsons, connected with them over Green Bay Packer games. She was a truly remarkable woman.
Osanna is survived by her children Chris Kalvonjian, Harry (Sandy) Kalvonjian Jr. and Carol (Chris Sarlas) Kalvonjian, her grandchildren Harry (Allyson) Kalvonjian III and Gregory (Kim) Kalvonjian, her great grandchildren Macy, Everly and Luke. She is also survived by her sister Alice Mgrdichian, cousin Sonia Sarkisian, sister-in-law Julia Kalvonjian, nephew Gary (Diane) Kalvonjian, niece Susan Kalvonjian (Robert Hausinger), great nephew Michael Hausinger, and great niece Melanie Hausinger.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookside Care Center and St. Catherine’s Hospital, as well as Dr. Wendel Friedl and Dr. Anna Silenzi, for their kind and compassionate care.
Funeral Services for Osanna will be held on Saturday, February 5th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church in Racine (4100 N. Newman Rd). Interment will follow at Green Ridge Cemetery in Kenosha. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Masks are required for the visitation and funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church or to the Armenian Relief Society.
