Harold Huissen, 94, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, Saturday, February 27, 2021 at his residence.
He was born on May 7, 1926 to the late Adrian and Elizabeth (Vreeke) Huissen in Sheboygan. He was educated in the schools of Kenosha.
Harold entered the US Navy and served during WWII. He drove Amphibious Transport Boats carrying soldiers to beaches in the South Pacific. Harold personally witnessed the raising of the American Flag in Imo Jima. He was honorably discharged on June 19, 1946 ranked as SKG Third Class. Continuing in the Reserves through March 25, 1953. Harold was very proud of being able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
On April 2, 1960 he married Lois Mae Rogin in Kenosha. She preceded him in death on September 15, 2014.
Harold worked as a custodian for 40 years in the Kenosha Unified School District, retiring as Head Custodian at Tremper High School.
Harold was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He loved singing in the choir and he taught Sunday School.
Harold was a member of the Barbershop Quartet, the 4 Voices, and also the Barbershop Chorus which he loved.
Harold enjoyed listening to Lenny on WLIP talk radio every morning for years and listened until he went into the hospital. He enjoyed camping, going to Hero’s Café and socializing and going to Wilmot to watch the stock car races. Harold was a dedicated Packer fan and loved playing Monopoly with his grandchildren, making it an annual event and spending time with his family.
Harold is survived by his children Kathleen (Stanley) Dugas of Racine, Donna (Peter) DeBree of Salem, Christine (Donald) Sireci of Saratoga, CA, Lynda (Thomas) Pfeiffer of Somers, Carol Ann Hall of Kenosha, Kenneth (Mary) Huissen of Kenosha and David Huissen of Kenosha, his 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a great grandson Damon Huissen, a granddaughter Jennifer Christine Sireci, brother Eugene and sisters Betty Spears, Corrine Huissen, Geraldine Huissen, Pearl Larsen and Minnie Karpus.
Visitation for Harold will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bruch Funeral Home. Private Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday and will be live streamed with the link https://trinitykenosha.org/trinity-live-stream/. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum with Full Military Honors. Memorials would be appreciated to Trinity Lutheran Church, Seasons Hospice Children’s Bereavement Camp, the Disabled American Veterans or to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
