Hansine (Johansen) Jorgensen, age 102, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Born on November 27, 1918 in Nakskov, Denmark, she was the daughter of the late Hjalmar and Johanne Johansen. She was educated in Nakskov and graduated at age 16.
Hansine was united in marriage to Erik Jorgensen on November 7, 1942 at St. Nicolai Church. She and Erik immigrated to the U.S. in June 1954 by way of a passenger ship and were processed through Ellis Island. Making their home in Racine, WI initially, they relocated to Kenosha in 1959. Over the years, Hansine worked as a housekeeper and nanny.
She was active in her church (Bethania Lutheran Church, Racine) and loved coffee clutching with her Danish friends. Hansine adored her grandchildren and enjoyed knitting sweaters, booties and scarves to keep her grandchildren warm. She was a great baker of pastries and was famous for her Kransekage. She also loved her animals, especially her cats- 3 of whom she has outlived!
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James (Joanne) Jorgensen and Kurt (Joan) Jorgensen; her grandchildren, James E. Jorgensen, Jessica M. Jorgensen, Heather (Rob) McCartney; her great-grandchildren, Emily, Allison, Mary, and Jack.
In addition to her parents, Hansine was preceded in death her husband, Erik; her sisters, Else Paulsen, Inge Hansen; her brother, Helge Johansen.
