Alan Joseph Schaubel, 73, witty charming, deeply loving, and cherished by all who knew him, died Sunday June 20th, 2021, at his home with his family at his side. He will be forever missed by Penelope, his wife of 52 years, their son, Justin, daughter-in-law, Roberta and grandchildren, Aiden, and Paige Schaubel. Alan was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and earned a BS degree in Art at UW Whitewater, class of 1969. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1973. In the 1970s, Alan taught Intro to Art and Ceramics at UW Parkside, Carthage College and Rockford College, then began exhibiting his work at various juried Art Festivals throughout the Midwest and Florida for the next 20 years, winning numerous prizes and awards. As a young father, Alan was very involved in coaching Kenosha youth soccer and youth baseball from 1974 to 1985. He especially enjoyed coaching, teaching basic baseball skills, encouraging kids at all levels to develop, enjoy the game, focus on teamwork and just having fun. Alan loved the game of golf, briefly worked at Bristol Oaks, and golfed as often as possible here in Wisconsin and while wintering in Florida for the past 15 years. Alan was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer in 2011. We would like to thank the staff at the Kenosha Aurora Cancer Center for their dedicated care for the past 9 years. We extend special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Malik Bandealy for his excellent care and persistence treating a relentless and determined disease. Throughout his treatments, Alan maintained his wit, sense of humor, thoughtfulness, and lively personality. The family is planning a celebration of Alan’s Life early in August. Friends and family will be privately invited at a later date.
