The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Athletics Department is committed to a balanced student-athlete experience that develops future leaders and active community members. As the only NCAA Division II member in the state of Wisconsin, we strive to live the “Life in the Balance” philosophy by promoting academic excellence, athletic success, and community engagement to ensure personal growth and development.

The Parkside track & field team competed in Milwaukee this past weekend at the Marquette Invitational. The Rangers came away with second-place finishes on both the men’s and women’s scoreboards, with points coming from various event groups throughout the day. One of the biggest performances came from McKenna Armstrong, our Kenosha.com Ranger of the Week!

Armstrong, a sophomore from Random Lake, was victorious in the triple jump and added a third-place finish in the javelin. Her personal-best javelin throw of 30.61 meters is currently a team high and ranks eighth on Parkside’s all-time list. Armstrong’s triple jump of 10.68 meters was enough to edge out teammate Victoria Lendal for the victory. The two combined to score 18 points for the Rangers in the event.

Armstrong began competing in track and field six years ago as a freshman in high school after her sister convinced her to join the team. Along with track, she grew up competing in basketball, volleyball and barrel racing. Being a college athlete runs in the family. McKenna’s dad played football at Lakeland College and her mom played volleyball for Parkside. Her goal for the rest of the season is to PR in both of her events at next week’s GLIAC Outdoor Championships.

Armstrong currently studies kinesiology and sports performance at Parkside. She is still working on her plans for after college.

The Rangers return to action this weekend, dividing the squad into two. A handful of athletes will travel to Iowa to compete in the Drake Relays, while the remainder of the team will head to UW-Whitewater to compete in the Drake Alternative Meet. For more information, visit parksiderangers.com.
