The Parkside track and field team spent the past weekend competing in University Center, Mich., at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. The Rangers came away with one of their best performances at a conference championship meet in program history. Leading the way for the Rangers were jumpers Rachel Blaskowski and Victoria Lendal, our Kenosha.com Rangers of the Week.
Blaskowski, an Oak Creek native, became the first-ever Ranger to win an individual championship at a GLIAC meet, winning the long jump with a jump of 5.71 meters. Blaskowski would later be named the GLIAC Freshman Field Athlete of the Meet for her efforts.
Earlier in the season, Blaskowski broke the Parkside school record in the long jump with a jump of 5.78 meters, and has qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships.
Lendal, a native of Helsinge, Denmark, followed Blaskowski by winning the triple jump the next day. Lendal jumped 11.71 meters to claim the victory and break her own school record. The sophomore was named GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week with her first-place finish in the triple jump and placing fourth in the long jump.
“These two women are big-time competitors and have worked very hard to become the first GLIAC champions for our program,” Parkside coach Nick Maas said. “They deserve this honor and much more! The best part is that they are both very young and still have a lot more to experience! The future is bright for Rachel and Victoria!”
Up next for the Rangers
Blaskowski will compete in the Division II Indoor Championships March 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Va. For more information, visit parksiderangers.com.
