Born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Bethany Thomas has certainly made a name for herself in the music and theater world. She’s now a Chicago-based singer, actor and writer. Bethany is a proud recipient of a Joseph Jefferson Award and Black Theater Alliance Award, and a 3Arts Award in music. Her credits include the The Goodman, Writers Theater, Chicago Shakespeare, Porchlight, Court, Milwaukee Rep, and Northlight Theatre- where she recently starred as Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday and Maria Callas in the the one-woman tour-de-force Songs For Nobodies.

She’s also frequently entangled with Chicago institutions The Neo Futurists, Steppenwolf, Second City, Backroom Shakespeare Project, The Fly Honeys, The Paper Machete, and The Hideout.

As a singer/songwriter, BT tours and records with Welsh country-punk Jon Langford, and recently released two critically-acclaimed original rock albums- Material Flats (with Tawny Newsome) and the solo BT/She/Her. Find Bethany’s music on iTunes, Bandcamp, Spotify and everywhere else. @bethanyt80

“Thomas is equally powerful belting alto-fueled, blood-in-the-water blues and piercing the soprano stratosphere with the most delicate of operatic arias.” -CHICAGO SUNTIMES

“…extraordinary vocal range and musical ventriloquism… and remarkable range and charm as an actress.” -WTTW

“Bethany Thomas regales us with vocal impressions so finespun that you too might imagine that recordings of these legendary divas are now going to sound counterfeit. Breathtaking, startling, stunning, astonishing — this writer can’t think of enough synonyms to say Thomas amazes.” -PICTURE THIS POST

“Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday and Maria Callas… you’d imagine it would be impossible for a single singer to do justice to such a disparate group of musical artists. Anyone who could sing like Piaf, you’d think, is not going to be the perfect match for Callas… which brings us to Bethany Thomas.” -CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“Ms Thomas is a combination of Lady Gaga, Christine Aguilera and Maria Callas.” -CHICAGO THEATER REVIEW

“A strong female vocalist, who often has a bit of a Gwen Stefani edgy bemusement” -BLUES ROCK REVIEW

“something of a cross of Yes and Minnie Ripperton” -INK 19

“From rock to blues, from soul to punk, from the Hideout to the Lyric Opera, Bethany Thomas is a powerhouse of the arts.” -VOCALO RADIO
