March 16, 1951 – December 29, 2025
Victor Mitmoen, 73, of Kenosha, passed away December 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Victor was born on March 16, 1952, in Canton, S.D., the son of the late Vernon and LaVerne (Hill) Mitmoen. He was educated in the schools of WI, MN, IN, and received his bachelor’s degree in technical arts from Purdue University and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity. Victor was a beloved “workshop” teacher for the Kenosha Unified School District at various junior highs for 33 years. He was an independent dealer for Amsoil, known as “Mr. Amsoil.” Victor was a member of St. Mary’s Lutheran Church and Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club. Annually, for Arbor Day, the club would have a tree planting ceremony in which he portrayed Johnny Appleseed at various elementary schools. Victor became Scout Master for troop 533, which guided other boys to become Eagle Scouts. His hobbies included cooking, water skiing, boating, being an Eagle Scout, cheering for the Green Bay Packers, woodworking, was a very hands-on man and a jack of all trades, but most of all, he loved spending time with his friends and family, especially with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his fiancé, Rosemary Thompson of Kenosha; children, Sharon (Bob) Grazier of Kenosha, Deanna (James) Hawlish of Kenosha, Paul Gascoigne of Kenosha, Mark Mitmoen of Florence, KY; brother, John (Mika) Mitmoen of Middleton, WI; sister, Arlene (Will) Gross of Valparaiso, IN; also included are his grandchildren, Abigail, Allison, James, Colin, Jonah and Joseph. Victor was preceded in death by his parents.
For years after teaching he would get great enjoyment hearing from former students, scouts, their families and coworkers. The encounters would always begin, “Hello Mr. Mitmoen, remember me?” Please feel free to share the memories you have of Victor.
A memorial service will be held at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church (1700 S Green Bay Rd, Racine, WI 53406) on Saturday, March 14, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM. Afterward,s there will be a gathering at the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Sons of Norway, Nordly Set Lodge 5-183, and the Four Seasons Garden Club would be greatly appreciated.
