Terry Berrong, 81, of Winthrop Harbor passed away on May 8, 2025, at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa surrounded by his loving family.
Terry was born on December 28,1943 in Waukegan, IL to the late Earl and Betty Lou (Hall) Berrong. He was educated in the schools of Winthrop Harbor and Zion, IL. Terry met his future wife, Carol Hansis, as teenagers at the Park Roller Rink in Zion and enjoyed skating together. They later married on May 10, 1963. A graduate of Zion-Benton High School he then attended Chicago Trade School and became a journey union carpenter and served on the board of the Lake County Carpenters Local 250. Terry worked on many projects in Lake County including The Eagle roller coaster at Great America and the restoration of the Zion Hotel Dome. Before retiring he worked for the City of Highland Park as a Building Inspector and Plan Reviewer.
Terry was a member of the North Shore Street Rods owning and restoring his 1935 Ford Coupe. He enjoyed working in his yard and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Bears as well as spending time with his dog, Gracie. He loved music and enjoyed attending local music events, water skiing, camping and snowmobiling. Most of all he loved spending time with his friends and family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Berrong of Winthrop Harbor, IL. Children, Bonnie (Steve) Connelly of Kenosha, WI. Amy (Ken) McBroom of Cedarburg, WI. Carrie (John Petersen) Benning of Lake Villa, IL. Russ (Ami) Berrong of Gurnee, IL. Brother, Nick (Sue) Berrong of Winthrop Harbor, IL. Sisters, Sandy Pontillo of Winthrop Harbor, IL. Kathy Berrong (Roger Robison) of Strasburg, VA, and Wendy Lee of Simpsonville, SC.
Grandchildren are Jacqueline (Tim) Olson of Cedarburg, WI. Megan, Madeline and Patrick Connelly of Kenosha, WI. Chloe and Keegan McBroom of Cedarburg, WI. Ethan, Owen, Gavin, and Ellie Berrong of Gurnee, IL.
Great-grandchildren are Isabella, Nico, Leo and Giovanni Olson of Cedarburg, WI.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nancy (in infancy) and his grandson, Kenneth Christopher McBroom.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 17th at The Point Church, 900 Lewis Avenue in Winthrop Harbor. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with the funeral services starting at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow the service.
