Peter Allen Wynstra, age 82, a lifelong resident of Kenosha, Wisconsin, passed away at his residence on June 30th, 2025.
Pete was born on August 22, 1942, to the late Sydney and Catholine (DeHamer) Wynstra in Kenosha. He graduated from Bradford High School and went on to Trinity Christian College, Racine-Kenosha County Teachers College, and graduated from Carthage College. On June 13, 1964, he married Margaret “Peggy” Hardin at Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church in Dearborn, Michigan. They made their home in Kenosha, where they raised 2 daughters together. They were married for 48 years until her passing in 2012. Pete was an elementary school teacher and taught at several schools in the area including Somers, Columbus, and Frank Elementary. He was an employee of Kenosha Unified School District for 35 years.
Pete was a huge fan of the Milwaukee Brewers. For many years prior to COVID, he attended about 10 games per season. After he was unable to go in person, he never missed a game on television. Pete was also a proud member of First Presbyterian Church in Kenosha where he was very active for many years. He loved going to church each week and visiting with his church family at the coffee hour after the service. He also enjoyed attending the monthly senior luncheons at church, as well as any other fellowship activity the church had.
Peter is survived by his daughters; Judy Wynstra of Kenosha, WI and Pam (Greg) Henthorn of Bailey, CO; and granddaughter Kristen Henthorn (fiancé Vladimir Munoz) of New York, New York. He is further survived by his sister: Janet (Richard) Johnson of Madison, WI; sisters-in-law; Carol Wynstra of Tinley Park, IL, and Sarah Lawser of Red Bank, NJ; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife: Peggy Wynstra, brother: David Wynstra, and brother-in-law: John Lawser.
A memorial service celebrating Pete’s life will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 27, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church in Kenosha (1803-83rd Street). Visitation with the family will be at the church from 1:30 PM until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made to First Presbyterian Church would be greatly appreciated.
