Tuesday, May 19th, 1959 – Sunday, October 26th, 2025
Mary Thomsen, 66, of Kenosha, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie.
Mary was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and moved to Kenosha at a young age, where she would grow up surrounded by family, faith, and lifelong friendships. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, Forest Park Elementary, and Lance Junior High and graduated from Tremper High School in the Class of 1978. A lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, it was there that she would later marry the love of her life, Kevin Thomsen, in 1980. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Mary’s nurturing heart was evident in every part of her life. She spent her early years caring for others as a nurse’s aide in several local nursing homes, later sharing her warmth and friendly smile behind the bakery counter at Polentini’s and Pick ’n Save. She then brought that same compassion and dedication to her work in the office of Dr. Raymond Knight, where she was cherished by patients and coworkers alike. But of all her roles, none compared to the one she treasured most – being “Mom.” After years of hoping and praying, she was blessed with her greatest joy, her daughter Sarah, in 1987. From that moment on, she devoted herself fully to motherhood, pouring her heart into every classroom activity, field trip, and school event at Curtis Strange Elementary. Her kindness and involvement quickly made her a second mom to so many of Sarah’s friends, who continued to lovingly call her “Mom” well into adulthood.
Mary had an endless creative spirit and a gift for crafting – there wasn’t a project she wouldn’t try or effortlessly master. Her talent and enthusiasm inspired others, and friends often came to her for ideas, guidance, and a spark of her creativity. She also found joy in life’s simple pleasures – playing bingo, laughing with friends, and spending time with family. Those moments meant the world to her. Having grown up with a brother with special needs, Mary carried a lifelong passion for supporting and celebrating the special needs community, always leading with empathy, compassion, and love.
Mary will be remembered for her selflessness, her creativity, and the deep love she held for her family – especially her husband and daughter, who were her whole world. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Kevin Thomsen; her daughter, Sarah Thomsen; and her brothers, Bob (Roxanne) and Ronald Patrick. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Sandra (Wright) Patrick, and her special brother, Richard.
A visitation will be held at Proko Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Noon. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery.
