Janet C. Higgens, age 89, passed away in Sugar Land, Texas, on December 13th, 2025. She was born on February 6th, 1936, to the late George and Cecilia (Getschman) Gannaway in Gary, Indiana. On November 12th, 1960, she married James F. Higgens. The two would later raise three sons together. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage before James’ passing in 2010.
When Janet was younger, she loved her job scooping ice cream at Peter Pan Ice Cream in Kenosha. Janet later worked several jobs in Kenosha, including at Simmons Mattress Company in the early days, and later at Sears as a credit associate, a job she greatly enjoyed. She loved getting together with the ladies from Sears for a weekly breakfast club. She loved traveling with her husband. Janet also loved league bowling.
She is survived by her loving children: David (Terese Heinen) Higgens, Donald Higgens, and Steven (Rachel) Higgens, grandchildren: Sarah, Gena, Danny, and Chase, nieces: Amy (Scott) Rivera and Christine Winters, and many other living relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband James Higgens, brother Gerald Gannaway, sister-in-law Catherine Winters, and brother-in-law Alan Higgens.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel (1919 54th St., Kenosha, WI on Friday, December 19th, 2025, at 11 A.M. A visitation will also be held at the church from 10 A.M. until the time of the Mass. She will be laid to rest at Green Ridge Cemetery immediately following the services.
