June 16, 1966 – October 12, 2025
Command Sergeant Major Lawrence “Jamie” Richter, U.S. Army (Ret.), passed away peacefully on October 12th in his home surrounded by love. He was 59 years old.
Born on June 16, 1966, in Boscobel, Wisconsin, Jamie lived a life defined by service, loyalty, and heart. Jamie always wanted to be a soldier. He devoted 29 years to the United States Army, rising to the rank of Command Sergeant Major. His leadership, courage, and deep care for his fellow soldiers earned him the respect of everyone who served beside him. He was a decorated Iraq War veteran serving 2 tours. He also served a stateside tour in support of the global war on terrorism.
Among his many commendations, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his exceptional service and valor and was honored as Wisconsin Soldier of the Year—distinctions that reflected his unwavering dedication and integrity. Though he was highly decorated, Jamie never sought recognition; his pride came from mentoring others and seeing them succeed.
Beyond his uniform, Jamie was a man of warmth, humor, and quiet strength. He loved life’s simple pleasures, catching a Milwaukee Brewers game, perfecting a batch of bourbon with his father-in-law, and exploring new places whenever he could. Although he loved to travel, Wisconsin was always his home. His wife called him “Mr. Wisconsin” because of his deep love for his home state.
Jamie loved running. He completed many ultramarathons and marathons in his lifetime. He even finished the Boston Marathon in 2008 and most recently ran in the Wisconsin Marathon in May of 2024.
Jamie believed in showing up, doing things the right way, and leading by example. He was the one who could fix anything, calm any storm, and make everyone feel safe just by being in the room. His spirit was contagious, his advice was steady, and his presence was a gift.
He leaves behind family and friends who were all blessed to have him in their lives & will forever be honored to know and love him.
A visitation will be held from 4 pm – 6 pm and a memorial service at 6 pm with full military honors will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Proko Funeral Home in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
