February 11, 1942 – March 4, 2026
James “Jim” Charon, 84, of Racine/Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by the loving presence of his family.
Jim was born on February 11, 1942, in Escanaba, MI, where he spent his childhood. He was a 1960 graduate of Holy Name High School and soon after met the love of his life, Janet, at a Stanley Brush party. Their relationship grew into a lifelong partnership built on devotion, hard work, and family. After marrying, Jim and Janet began building the life they had always envisioned together, moved to Racine, and welcomed five children who became the center of Jim’s world: Jaimie (Stephanie) Charon, Julie (Tim) Eckert, Jeannie Charon (Craig Shaver), Joe (Joanne) Charon, and Jonathan (Sasha) Charon. Their family continued to grow, blessing Jim and Janet with eight grandchildren, Lauren Alvarez, Jade and Trey Eckert, Jacob Charon, Brooke and Brady Charon, Keane and London Charon; and great-grandchildren Dakota and Catalina, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Jim and Janet became self-made business owners and operated Charon Technologies for over 38 years. Through dedication, skill, and integrity, Jim built a reputation for exceptional quality machine work. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were widely respected, and his work reflected the pride he took in doing things the right way. One unique highlight of his career was creating a custom golf putter for Michael Jordan’s limited sales edition, a project that showcased both his talent and creativity. Jim truly loved being a business owner and craftsman. He also enjoyed spending time in his shop tinkering, especially with his newly acquired Model T, a project that brought him great satisfaction.
A love for cooking was another one of his gifts- something he learned from his mother, Elizabeth, and eagerly passed on to anyone willing to learn. He often spoke of the comforting aromas from her kitchen and the way she showed love through food. He carried those traditions into his own home, and his apple, strawberry, and Christmas meat pies became cherished family favorites. Those recipes, and the love behind them, will continue on.
Yet above all else, Jim cherished time spent with his family. Whether sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or simply being present, he found his greatest happiness surrounded by those he loved.
Jim will be remembered for his quiet strength, his work ethic, his generosity, and his deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped and the family he cherished.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to the family would be appreciated.
