It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald H. Alfredson, who left us peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the age of 87. Gerald was born on December 18, 1937 to George and Charlotte (Schomaker) Alfredson, and lived a life filled with love, resilience, and kindness.
Gerald attended UW Madison and graduated from UW Parkside. He worked as a Data Processing manager for NASA, Manpower, JTC, and ultimately retired from Abbott Laboratories. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, shooting pool, playing cribbage, and traveling in his RV. Spending time with his family and friends was his true joy and passion in life.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sharon (Knapp) Alfredson; his children Susan (Thomas) Merritt, David (Ruthann) Alfredson, James Alfredson, William (Jessica) Alfredson, and Jodie (Brad) Karmann; as well as his grandchildren, Dr. Amanda (Michael) Ratkovitch, Hannah (Cody) Cox, Abbey Alfredson, Max Alfredson, Elizabeth Karmann, Ethan Karmann, Victoria Alfredson; and great grandchildren, Greyson Merritt, Hayes Ratkovitch, Otto Cox, Roman Merritt, Cooper Ratkovitch, and Alfie Cox. Gerald is further survived by his siblings, Nancy Laken, and Gloria Auchey; sisters-in-law Ursula Alfredson, Kathy Jankowski and brother-in-law, Ray Jankowski and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents George and Charlotte Alfredson and his wife’s parents William and Eveyln Knapp; brother, George Alfredson, brothers-in-law, Thomas Laken Jr. and Flynn Auchey, and his grandsons, Matthew and Michael Merritt.
