July 29, 1935 – January 18, 2026
David Kenton Hirst, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Born on July 29, 1935, in Bloomington, Illinois, Dave lived a full and vibrant life marked by deep faith, enduring love for his family, and a spirit of adventure.
Dave graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor of Science Degree and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army. His commitment to service extended beyond the military into his lifelong involvement with the Methodist Church. A man of strong Christian faith, Dave was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully as an usher and as a member of the Board of Trustees.
He shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife Sally until her passing. Together they explored the world—traveling to China, Israel, Egypt, Australia, Europe, and Alaska—creating memories that reflected their shared curiosity and love for discovery.
Dave had many passions that brought him joy throughout his life. He was an avid sailor who kept a boat in Kenosha Harbor for many years. He also found great satisfaction in working with his hands—refinishing furniture and caning chairs with care and craftsmanship. A dedicated Ham Radio enthusiast, he spent countless hours connecting across the airwaves. Music was another constant in Dave’s life; he loved to sing and often filled his home with song.
Above all else, Dave cherished time spent with his family. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Ken Hirst of Palatine; Deann Mealey (Mike) of Huntersville; and Steven Hirst (Susan) of Wauconda. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Laura Lettrick (Nick), Alyssa DiGiovanni (Matt), Michael Mealey (Jennifer), Steven Hirst, Ann Marie Hirst, and Allison Hirst; as well as his great-grandchildren: Bryson, Matthias, Camryn, and Arabella.
Dave was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Sally; his father, Gordon; mother, Ava; stepmother, Ruth; brother, John; and sister-in-law, Cheryl.
Those who knew Dave will remember him for his adventurous spirit, warm sense of humor, kindness to all he met, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His presence enriched every gathering and left lasting impressions on generations of family and friends.
May David Kenton Hirst’s memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
