It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles “Tom” Ernest Halverson, a beloved son, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, who passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the age of 73. Born in Viroqua, WI, on February 23, 1952, to the late Ernest and Nellie (Niles) Halverson. He was a graduate of Viroqua High School.
On January 6, 1975, he was united in marriage to Susan Hattori.
His time in the Army during the Vietnam War instilled in him a sense of duty and honor that he carried throughout his life. As a Specialist 4, he served his country with pride from October 15, 1971, until October 9, 1974, forging bonds with his fellow soldiers that lasted a lifetime.
Tom spent his career as a machinist at Snap-on Tools, where his dedication and skilled hands contributed to the machinery manufacturing industry. He took pride in his work and was respected by his peers for his unwavering commitment and craftsmanship. His keen intellect and problem-solving abilities were truly remarkable.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Halverson; his sister, Doris Kraning-Redlin; his brothers, Richard and Bill Halverson; his niece, Kara Kraning; his nephew, Erick Kraning; and great nieces, Hailie and Payton Eschbach. Each of their lives was enriched by his kindness and laughter.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will echo in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest peacefully, dear Tom; you will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
Funeral services honoring Tom’s life will be held privately.
