Bradley J. Weinstock, age 85, passed away peacefully into eternal life on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Drumlin Reserve, Cottage Grove, WI, with his family at his side. Born on March 7, 1940, in Kenosha, WI, Brad was the beloved first and only child of the late Frank A. and Viola M. Weinstock.
Brad spent nearly his entire life in Kenosha, graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School (1958). He began his college studies at what is now the University of Wisconsin – Parkside before transferring to Northwestern University, where he earned both his bachelor’s (1962) and master’s (1963) degrees from the Medill School of Journalism. During his time at Northwestern, Brad was the play-by-play commentator for sporting events on WNUR, the university’s radio station.
On June 22, 1963, Brad married the love of his life, Jeanette Marie Berg, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kenosha, WI. Together, they celebrated 62 years of marriage this past June.
Brad began his career as a sportswriter at the Kenosha News. In 1972, he resigned from journalism full-time to assume responsibility for his parents’ business, Sunnyside Florist – a retail flower and gift shop, and garden center. Jeanette joined Brad at Sunnyside as the lead floral designer, and they cherished working alongside each other for nearly 30 years. A passionate gardener, Brad’s favorite aspect of the business was running the garden center each spring when “everything came back to life.”
A devout Christian, Brad was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir and served on numerous committees. Brad also dedicated his time and talent to the Shalom Center, a nonprofit organization focused on providing emergency food, shelter, and support for individuals in need. He served on Shalom’s Board of Directors for more than two decades, led many fundraising events, and personally baked thousands of cookies for the residents and staff at the center.
Brad was an avid sports fan, especially of the Chicago Cubs and Duke men’s basketball. He also loved to travel – taking extended road trips with his parents while growing up, including driving to Alaska on one particularly long excursion in the 1950’s. Later in life, he enjoyed the peace and tranquility of Northern Wisconsin at the family’s cabin in Winchester. A day in his incredible backyard garden with a camera in hand was always a favorite day.
Above all, Brad was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and happiest when surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his two sons, John (Katherine) Weinstock of Wakefield, RI, and Mark Weinstock of Cottage Grove, WI; and his five grandchildren: Andrew, Margaret, Ellen, Evi, and Ryleigh Weinstock.
