Aurelia M.Tenerovicz, of Kenosha, WI, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on July 27, 2025.
Born on October 27, 1942, in Marquette, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Frank A. and Mary (Collicelli) Sarvello. She attended Northern Michigan University and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta. It was at NMU where she met her husband, Thomas J. Tenerovicz. They were married on February 5, 1966.
Aurelia was a physical education teacher in Warren, MI and Chicago, IL for 11 years before moving to Syracuse, NY, where she decided to stay home and lovingly raise her three children. She volunteered at her children’s school and at church events. She was a devoted Catholic and instilled those values in her children.
As her children grew, since Aurelia loved the water and helping others, she obtained her water safety instructor/lifeguarding license and taught swim lessons to children with special needs. She went on to get her warm water aerobics certification and taught water aerobics for the Arthritis Foundation for many years. When her husband, Thomas, retired, they moved to Cheboygan, MI. Aurelia continued her volunteer career by working in the gift shop at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital and became a member of the Daughters of Isabella through their church, St. Mary/St. Charles of the Catholic Community.
Aurelia had a calm demeanor and loving heart. She had a smile that lit up the room. She loved cooking meals for her family and cherished the time spent with her grandkids. She was known for her coffee cake and was ready to share it with family and friends. She will be missed dearly.
Aurelia is survived by her husband of 59 years, Thomas Tenerovicz; children, Mary (Barry) Nelson, Susan (Brent) Backus, and Thomas Jr.; grandchildren, Sara Backus, Bryce Backus and Autumn Brown; and three sisters, her twin Concetta Green, Francesca Sarvello, and Patricia Sarvello, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary, her in-laws, Edward and Marcella Tenerovicz, and her brother-in-law, William Green.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 2nd, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will be at 12:00 pm with Mass to follow at 1:00 pm.
The family would like to thank Dr. Leonardo Montemurro, Dr. Mary Campagna-Gibson, and Legacy Hospice, who all took very good care of Aurelia, especially in her last few months of life.
A special thank you to Our Harmony Club, who kept her active and smiling.
