Alta Ann Cherry Johnson passed away peacefully in Racine, WI, on August 30th, 2025
Arriving as a gift from the cosmos on February 23rd, 1959, to Raymond & Edna (Kirkland) Cherry in Billings, Montana. Alta graduated from Laurel High School and went on to get her Accounting degree. She worked in customer service for years in many different brick-and-mortar stores before she got to enjoy retirement life.
A loving life partner for over 30 years to her husband, Gary. Mother to Darrick & Desiree. Alta was a caring, lighthearted, fun-loving woman. From playing horseshoes to family game nights. She always loved having a good time with family and friends.
She was survived by her husband, Gary Johnson, her children Darrick & Maggie (Hansen) MacDonald, and Desiree (MacDonald) & Kevin Knor. Grandchildren: Crystal, Morgan, Charlie, Wyatt, Maxine, Preslie Ann, and Dalton. Her siblings are Russell, Alvin, John & Cheryl. Along with way more family than this paragraph can contain. She was preceded in death by both her parents and her siblings, Monty and Kitty Marie Cherry
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 13th at RAM’s Charles A. Wustum Museum of Fine Arts. 2519 Northwestern Ave, Racine, WI 53404. Visitation will be from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Service will start at 12:00 pm. Followed by a private gathering with the family.
A casual Internment will be on Monday, Sept 15th at 10:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or donations to the family are appreciated via Michael at the Casey Family Options Service 262-653-0667.
Alta Nana Montana will be greatly missed by all the lives she has touched. The biggest thing she taught me is that life is a succession of lessons that must be lived to be understood.
