Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity is more than just swinging a hammer or measuring wood. It’s about building something bigger than a house. When families have safe, stable homes, they’re more likely to stay healthy. Children are more likely to succeed academically and emotionally, creating a ripple effect that benefits schools, neighborhoods, and the local economy. A strong home builds strong citizens, who build strong communities.
It’s a powerful feeling knowing you helped give a family more than just four walls and a roof. You gave them a fresh start. A home where kids can do their homework, parents can rest after work, and everyone can feel proud. There’s nothing like seeing the joy on a family’s face when they walk into their new home for the first time. It’s a moment filled with gratitude, hope, and the promise of new beginnings.
At Habitat for Humanity of Racine & Kenosha Counties, that’s exactly what we do. We build homes with the help of volunteers – people just like you – so families in our own community can have a decent place to call home.
Who Can Help
We’re always looking for folks with building or carpentry skills to join our Carpenter’s Club, a group of regular volunteers who know their way around a toolbox and want to lend a hand. Maybe you’ve worked in construction, remodeling, or just enjoy fixing things. Maybe you’re retired or have a schedule that allows for some free time during the week. You choose the days that work best for you – we just ask that you show up consistently. Your experience can make a big difference.
What Volunteering Consists Of
A typical volunteer day at a build site might include framing walls, painting, putting up siding, or helping with landscaping. No two days are the same, but every task brings a family one step closer to home. Whether you’re coming on your own or as part of a group, you’ll be welcomed and supported every step of the way. You’ll meet friendly people, work side-by-side with future homeowners, and leave with a sense of accomplishment. Volunteering is also a great team-building activity. Many local businesses, schools, and faith groups join us on build days and at the ReStore to give back and strengthen their community ties.
Don’t have construction skills? That’s okay! We welcome all volunteers. There’s always something to do, and you’ll learn along the way. Whether you’re 18 or 80, your time and energy are valuable – and deeply appreciated.
