Sandra J. Wess, 84, of Kenosha, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Aurora Medical Center Kenosha, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 20, 1940, in West Allis, WI, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Claire (Semrau) Owen. She was a 1958 graduate of Central High School in West Allis, WI.
On January 2, 1960, she married Anthony Martin Wess at St. Rita’s Parish in West Allis, WI. They moved to Kenosha in 1963. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1998.
She was employed by Commerce Clearing House in Riverwoods, IL until she retired.
Sandra was a former member of the Kenosha Art Association and the Kenosha Woman’s Bowling Association. She loved crocheting beautiful afghans for her family, and spending time in casinos, especially participating in the Library Terrace Bingo. She was a lover of all animals, but her cats were her favorite. She looked forward to and cherished time spent with her family and took a lot of joy in preparing meals for them. She had no limit when it came to making Christmas cookies. She was an excellent cook and baker. She was an avid NASCAR, IndyCar, and Green Bay Packer Fan. There were many times she wanted to break her tv when the Packers weren’t playing well. For many years, she was a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). Watching the flying teams, the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds filled her with extreme emotion, she was so proud of their incredible talent. For 16 years, she enjoyed spending her summers at Plymouth Rock. She worked part time in the office there for three seasons. In her early years, she enjoyed her stay at the cabin in Vilas County, WI, and crazy cross-country trips with her sisters.
She is survived by her two daughters, Laurie (Kevin) Doherty and Patricia (Mick) Ramsdell, six grandchildren; Eric (Tanya) Doherty, Sarah (Joy) Stauder, David (Michelle) Leiting, Jr., Samantha Feltz, Adam (Ryen) Ramsdell, and Ashley LaBelle; ten great-grandchildren, Harper Leiting, Noah Feltz, Emma Feltz, Joshua Gattshall Jr., Paul Gattshall, Kylie Gattshall, Nicole Prostko, Alexandria Prostko, Martin Prostko, and Abrianna LaBelle; her sister, Mary Ann Kenney; and many other special family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sandra was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Martin Wess II and two sisters, Ginger Unger and Christine Mickelson.
Per Sandra’s wishes, services were held privately.
