John J. Hoffmann, 96, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, Friday, December 8, 2023 at North Point Senior Living.
He was born on August 3, 1927 to the late Reinhardt and Emma (Barth) Hoffmann in Kenosha. He was educated in the schools of Kenosha.
John entered the Navy Seabees and was honorably discharged. Participated on the Honor Flight on April 16, 2016.
On October 6, 1951 he married Joan M. Montgomery at Frieden’s Evangelical Lutheran /church.
She preceded him in death on December 7, 2014.
John worked at AMC/Chrysler for 32 years, retiring as an Inspector on July 28, 1989. He was a member of UAW Local #72. While working at AMC, he worked at Bindelli’s Construction as a cement finisher for many years.
John enjoyed volunteering at the Shalom Center and received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2018. He enjoyed going to concerts downtown and to the PB & Jam. John was active in genealogy and was a member of the Kenosha Genealogy Club. He was very active at the Senior Center serving on the Board of Directors of the Kenosha Senior Citizens Council for multiple terms. He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Woodturners Group. John was curious and loved to wander the backroads, stopping at historical markers and sights along the way. He loved the outdoors; camping, hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, sail boating and gardening.
John is survived by his children Linda Jean (Thomas) Babinski of Kenosha, David Alan (Isabella) Hoffmann of Fort Myers, FL, Laura Jane (Dean) Ackmann of Larsen, WI and John Eric Hoffmann of O’Fallon, MO, his seven grandchildren, his 12 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law Marjorie Hoffmann of Merced, CA.
He is preceded in death by a brother Raymond and his sisters Carol, Hope, Marilyn, Audrea, Alice, Doris and June.
Funeral Services will be private. Memorials would be appreciated to the Shalom Center or to the Senior Center in John’s name.
