James was born on October 10, 1943, in La Crosse, WI, the son of the late Harold and Mazille “Pat” (Lorenz) Larrabee. He was educated in the schools of La Crosse. James married Mary (Hartnell) Cox on December 27, 1991, in Kenosha. He worked for Snap-on Tools as an inspector and machinist for 30 years. James was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. His hobbies included playing cards, cribbage, bowling, golfing, cheering for the Chicago Cubs, being president of the Machinist Union, but most of all, he loved spending time with his friends and family, especially with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Larrabee of Racine; children, Howard Cox of Kenosha, Phillip Cox of Racine; brother, Ralph Larrabee of UT; sister, Barbara (Lou) Gibbs of MI; grandchildren, Jonathon Johann, Michael Johann, and Rachael Cox; also included is his great-grandchild, Cameron Balleske. James was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Tracy Johann, and his brother in infancy.
A visitation will be held at Kenosha Funeral Services on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM, with visitation following the next day at Trinity Lutheran Church, 7104-39th Ave., Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM, with funeral services to follow immediately at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
