Evelyn A. Czarny, 87, of Burlington, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 20, 1938, she was the daughter of Michael and Mary (nee Sitar) Nemlaha. Her early life was spent in Chicago, where she graduated from Our Lady of Angels Grade School, Madonna High School, and attended Loyola University of Chicago. On October 10, 1959, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chicago, she was united in marriage to William P. Czarny. Following marriage, they resided in Franklin Park, Illinois, for 16 years before moving to the Burlington area in 1977. They celebrated 66 years of marriage together.
Evelyn worked as a secretary at Motorola in Franklin Park, IL, for 8 years and at Nestle in Burlington for 14 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington and was a volunteer for St. Vincent’s. She loved to bake and was a great cook, known for her coleslaw, mostaccioli, Rice Krispies treats, and many other pastries. She enjoyed painting, crafts, gardening, and playing Texas Hold Em. She also enjoyed playing cards with her grandkids and spending time with her family.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Bill Czarny; children, David (Debbie) Czarny, Bob (Kim) Czarny and Paul (Patti) Czarny; grandchildren, Michael, Brandon and Nicholas Czarny, Matthew (Katie) Czarny, Jena Czarny, Kristin (Ben) Ho, Heather (Miguel Huerta) Czarny and Robbie Czarny, Taryn (Casey) Johnson, Andrew (Kami Kanz) Czarny, and Lauren (Kyle) Bartelt; great-grandchildren, Jamie, Abby, William, Emersyn, Madeline, Elliott, Alejandro, Daxton, Sloane, Savannah and Brecken. Evelyn is further survived by her sister, Mildred Geroux, and brother-in-law Rudy (Marsha) Czarny. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Michael Nemlaha, and sister Eleanor (Al) SanFilippo.
The family would like to thank Dr. Virani and hospice nurses Beth, Taylor, and Renee for their care during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 am on Friday, April 24, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington. Burial will follow in St. Mary Parish Cemetery. Relatives and friends can visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday, April 24th, from 9 am until 11 am.
