Elizabeth (Betty) Matacia, of Kenosha, WI, passed away on December 21st, 2023. Born in Memphis, TN, on July 27th, 1927, her parents were Ernest Nolen and Margaret (Smith) Nolen. She was the youngest of eight children and her hobbies were sewing, cooking, and painting. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Memphis in 1943. She left home for Germany in 1951 to work as a secretary in the Civil Service. She met her husband to be, James Matacia, in Wiesbaden, West Germany, and married him in Casablanca, Morrocco in 1953 becoming a housewise and mother to four daughters. After the children were grown, she became an administrative assistant in the Civil Service. She belonged to the Ladies Society in Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Kenosha, WI, and the Red Hat Society. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Brighton, WI.
She is survived by three daughters: Maria Matacia Chenault (Don), Gina Matacia, Angela Matacia, seven grandchildren: Tony, Cassie, Rafael, Sebastian, Micaela, Matthias, Augustin, and seven great grandchildren: Bruce, Angel, William, Tyler, Rosie, Reagan, Lucas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: James Matacia, and one daughter: Antoinette Matacia. Her life was influenced by her Catholic Faith. In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth asks for a memorial contribution in her name to The Legacy at St. Joseph’s, in Kenosha, WI, EWTN, the Kenosha Achievement Center, or Hospice Alliance in Kenosha.
