Donald Charles Maegaard, 75, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Aurora Medical Center – Kenosha.
Born in Kenosha, on December 28, 1947, he was the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Kloster) Maegaard. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was educated in local schools and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1966. He attended and was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church.
Don enlisted in the US Air Force and served in the 3575th Pilot Training Squadron at Vance AFB and was later transferred to serve in Portugal. He was honorably discharged in May of 1971.
He married Judy Perona and together they had one child, Kelly, and later divorced. On October 10, 1984, he had the good fortune of marrying Patricia A. Murray, who brought her children, Tim and Julie, to their blended family, and they enjoyed 38 wonderful years together.
Donald was employed as a truck driver at Anaconda American Brass prior to his military service and following until he joined the Kenosha Sheriff’s Department in 1974. He spent 30 years as a Deputy Sheriff and in October of 1989, he was promoted to the rank of Detective and retired in January of 2004.
Survivors include his wife: Patricia Maegaard; three children: Kelly (Joseph Goudie) Puente, Julie Neu, and Tim Neu; six grandchildren: Bishop, Beckie, Brandon, and Brittanie Puente, Connor Secor, and Julianna Neu; three great-grandchildren: Aishley, Gianni, and Alayna; and his beloved dog: Gracie. He is also survived by his many close cousins who embraced him as a brother. He will be deeply missed, especially by “his girls”, Pat and Gracie.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson: Aaron Jacob Maegaard.
Honoring Don’s wishes, services were held privately.
