Alice Mae Van Kammen, 94 years old, lifelong resident of Kenosha, WI passed away on the first day of Spring, Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Brookside Care Center, Kenosha, WI.
She was born July 31, 1927, in Kenosha, WI the daughter of the late Henry and Eva (Shinn) Norgaard. On May 24, 1946, she married Roger Van Kammen at St. Mary Lutheran Church, Kenosha, WI, and he preceded her in death in 2011.
Alice attended area schools and was employed by MacWhyte Wire Rope Co., Kenosha, WI for many years, retiring in 1987.
Alice enjoyed shopping, gardening, and socializing. She loved going to art fairs with her son and daughter-in-law. She enjoyed sewing and painting ceramics. She loved going to Ferryville, WI, to stay at her sister, Betty’s farm. She enjoyed playing Bingo and going to the Milwaukee casino occasionally. She was an excellent gardener and the world’s best mother-in-law.
Survivors include her son, Glen (Janet) Van Kammen of Kenosha, WI; three nephews, Wayne, Paul, and Michael Martin; and one niece, Nancy Alice Scott. She is also survived by nine great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by two daughters at birth; and sisters, Betty Lou Martin and Carol “Corky” Norgaard.
Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Proko Funeral Home with memorial services commencing at 7:00 p.m. Interment of her ashes will be private in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, Kenosha, WI. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Kenosha Achievement Center or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in her memory.
