Albert Douglas Akins, age 82, of Kenosha went home to be with his savior on November 22, 2021 at Froedtert South – Pleasant Prairie Campus. Albert was born on July 29th, 1939 in Chicago, the son of Lillian Sowell and Douglas Akins. He was educated in the schools of Chicago. Albert served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from March, 1963 until his honorable discharge in March, 1965. Albert married Helen Thomas Akins in Illinois. Albert was employed and retired from ITO Industries in Bristol. His hobbies included painting portraits and drawing using all types of mediums. He also enjoyed playing the keyboard and watching WWI and WWII documentaries. Albert’s love for his God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, was the most important thing in his life, and he led his life in accordance with that love. Albert was a kindhearted man who loved both his family and friends, he will be greatly missed by them.
Albert is survived by, his wife Helen Thomas Akins; children, Douglas Akins, Suzette (Eric) Anthony, Thomas Akins, Annie (Nathanieal) Akins Pringle and Tammy (Lawrence) Poe all of Kenosha; his sister, Sandra Sowell and nephews Kevin and Omura Graves all of Chicago as well as many grandkids and other family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. A. Tarig Ahmed and Dr. Michael Ginsburg and their staff at Froedtert South – Pleasant Prairie and Dr. James Thomas and his staff at Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin for their care of Albert.
Funeral services for Albert will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 2nd, 2021 at Kenosha Bible Church (5405 – 67th Street) with military honors to follow. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
