Kenosha’s skies will once again be filled with color, creativity and soaring kites as the annual 92.1 VTY Country IKEA Outta Sight Kite Flight returns to Kennedy Park on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7.
Presented by Gift of Wings and the City of Kenosha, the free two-day event celebrates its 23rd year at Kennedy Park, located along Kenosha’s scenic lakefront at 4051 Fifth Ave. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and has become one of the area’s most anticipated summer traditions.
A highlight of the weekend will be the Zeigler Hyundai Grand Launch at noon each day, when hundreds of kites — between 400 and 500 in total — will take to the sky in a spectacular display above Lake Michigan.
Visitors will have the opportunity to watch world-class kite flyers perform throughout the weekend. Returning for their 17th year, the internationally recognized Fire & Ice Precision Kite Team will showcase synchronized kite routines during three daily performances. The American Dream Team will also return, bringing two giant whale kites, a new 120-foot Trilobite kite making its debut appearance, and the exclusive IKEA Giant Kites that can only be seen at the Outta Sight Kite Flight festival.
Additional performers include professional kite flyers Paul Koepke of Milwaukee, Jim Almas of Vancouver, and Jean Lemire of Montreal, who will attempt to fly three to four stunt kites simultaneously while performing to music. The Flying Emus will also entertain crowds with four-line stunt kite demonstrations, while Amy and Connie Doran, known for their appearance on America’s Got Talent, will perform throughout the weekend.
Families with children will find plenty to enjoy as well. The popular Leaf Guard Kids Mad Dash takes place at 2:30 p.m., followed by the Kids T-Fiber Dash at 4 p.m. During each event, the first 100 participating children will receive a free kite and have the chance to launch it alongside dozens of other young kite enthusiasts.
Food and kites will be available for purchase throughout the festival, making it easy for families to spend the day along the lakefront enjoying the entertainment and trying their own hand at flying a kite.
Admission to the 92.1 VTY Country IKEA Outta Sight Kite Flight is free.
For families looking for a fun and unique way to kick off the summer season, Kennedy Park promises a weekend filled with giant kites, professional performances, and unforgettable views along Kenosha’s lakefront.
