If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Kota, this week’s Pet of the Week might be the perfect addition to your family.
Meet Kota, a friendly 5-year-old dog available for adoption at the Wisconsin Humane Society’s Kenosha Campus. Weighing approximately 60 pounds, Kota is known for his sweet nature, goofy personality, and ability to win over just about everyone he meets.
While Kota may take a little time to warm up to new people, shelter staff and volunteers say that once he decides you’re a friend, he’ll love you forever.
“Kota is such a happy boy,” said shelter staff. “He is always excited to get out of his kennel and spend time with people. He has made so many friends while at the shelter and loves attention.”
Kota enjoys long walks, outdoor adventures, office-time snacks, and plenty of belly rubs. His playful personality and affectionate nature make him a favorite among volunteers.
Despite his charming looks and lovable demeanor, Kota is still waiting for the right family to find him. Because he has been at the shelter longer than expected, he has earned “benchwarmer” status — a special designation for pets who have been overlooked and are ready for a second chance.
To help him find a home, the Wisconsin Humane Society has reduced his adoption fee, and adopters can even choose their own adoption fee amount.
Not quite sure if Kota is the right fit? The Wisconsin Humane Society’s Benchwarmer Tryout Program allows potential adopters to take qualifying dogs home for up to seven days. If it’s a perfect match, adoption paperwork can be completed online from home. If not, Kota still benefits from a break from shelter life and valuable time in a home environment.
Like all dogs adopted through the Wisconsin Humane Society, Kota has been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, making him ready to join his new family immediately.
With his wagging tail, friendly spirit, and endless supply of affection, Kota is hoping his forever family is just around the corner.
