Willa and her family would also like to pass along special thanks to all of her private lesson instructors and The Prairie School Music Teachers, who have influenced her journey.

In response to their selection, Willa said, “For as long as I can remember, I have been dedicating time and effort into my cello playing. Since second grade, I have been working on not perfecting my cello playing but learning to better understand the instrument. Although to many the cello might appear to be a large piece of wood with some strings attached, to me, it is so much more. It is an outlet to unleash my anger, sadness, joy, and any other emotions that might be too much for me to carry on my own. Instead of bearing the burden of life, I can allow my pain to seep through my fingertips into my cello and out into the world. The music I play is not only notes from a page, it is a translation of the emotions and feelings I hold within myself that even I cannot understand, but somehow, my cello can. Not only is my cello a creative outlet, but it is a place of discipline. I have spent countless hours perfecting my work and internalizing the music rather than just learning it. Being a part of the Honors Performance Series not only gives me an opportunity to flourish but gives the young second-grade girl inside of me to live out her dream of being a great cellist.”
Willa will join performers from across the United States and abroad for a special performance at the world-famous Carnegie Hall, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. The finalists will come together in New York City, where they will have the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors, work with other performers, and get a taste of NYC.
