By Samantha Jacquest

Samantha Jacquest is the owner of Blue House Books, Kenosha's full-service independent bookstore in Downtown Kenosha. Sam loves sharing her love of books with the community and bringing in popular and local authors for events. When not at her shop, Sam enjoys traveling and spending time Downtown with her friends, family, and rescue dog Flash.

What’s the best way to spend a cold Wisconsin night? At the bookstore chatting about cozy murder mysteries, of course!

This Friday, December 8th, we have cozy mystery author Sharon Nagel coming to Blue House Books to talk about the newest Shady Hollow cozy mystery book, Twilight Falls! Sharon Nagel is one half of the writing duo Juneau Black, who along with her writing partner Jocelyn has now published four of these cute mystery novels filled with talking woodland creatures. I admit, I was wildly surprised when I realized how much our customers just love these books! They are filled with the perfect lighthearted charm that you love to enjoy during the holidays!

This event is free but registration is required. You can sign up here.

Now on to my weekly book recommendation! I am so excited for our newest book club selection that we just started reading: The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly! I read this book years ago and I’m so excited to revisit London in the late 1800s. The story opens with an attack on a Whitechapel working girl that has echoes of a famous London serial killer. Could it be Jack the Ripper? Suddenly we are thrown in to the life of Fiona Finnagan, a girl with nearly nothing other than a loving family, her childhood love, and a dream. When a brutal act turns her life upside down, Fiona must abandon all her comforts and flee to New York City. Amid tragedy and heartbreak, can Fiona at least salvage her dreams? This is a story of murder, revenge, and love, and I absolutely can’t wait to dive in!

And since we’ll be reading a book largely about tea, obviously a Chai Latte from Anna’s on the Lake is the drink to enjoy while reading! I prefer mine hot, which I think is perfect for these upcoming cold winter nights. If you need help staying up all night to read, ask for a Dirty Chai for
an extra shot of espresso!

The Blue House Book Club meets the last Tuesday of every month, except December. We always choose a longer book to keep us occupied during our break for the holidays, so there is still plenty of time to grab your copy for 10% off from Blue House Books and get reading!
