Violet Rose McGrath, age 75, passed away peacefully on April 25th, 2025.
Violet was born in Jefferson, Indiana to loving parents Floyd and Rose McIntosh. She completed high school at Grant High School in Fox Lake. Shortly thereafter she met her future husband, Bob McGrath, the son of one of her father’s coworkers. The two were married on July 1st, 1967, in Round Lake, and immediately moved to Virginia for Bob’s military service. Bob was deployed to Vietnam when Violet was pregnant and was able to return to the States after she was born. A son, Rob, was born soon after. After the war, Violet and Bob moved back to the area where they raised a happy family and enjoyed the company of friends and family.
Violet worked as a waitress for many years. In her spare time, she loved horseback riding and playing with her great-grandchildren.
Violet is survived by her husband Bob McGrath, a son Robert (Tammy) McGrath Jr, grandchildren Jake (Emily) McGrath and Jocee Zimmerman, and great-grandchildren Cooper and Carson McGrath. She is further survived by her sister Paula (Terry) Atkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Tracy Zimmerman, and her brother Bud McIntosh.
Violet will be interred at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, May 1st at 1pm, at the Boardwalk Apartments Community Room (232 Bridge St, Burlington).
Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Fontida Assisted Living for their help when Violet’s memory deteriorated, and to Vitas Hospice Center for the compassionate care she received during her final days.
