Steven R. Mattox, 63, made his transition back home on Saturday, April 26, 2025, with his loving sister Joan, brother-in-law, Dan and cousins, Sadie and Cynthia at his bedside.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 30, 1962, raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin as a son to William and Helen Mattox. He was a graduate of Tremper High School, Class of 1980 as well as a graduate of DeVry University with his Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.
Steven worked for Wisconsin Energy in Milwaukee in IT Support for the past seven years and prior to that was in IT Support at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha for many years.
Although Steven was trained in IT, his passion was singing, and he took that passion and parlayed it into a paid lifestyle on the weekends. Steve traveled all over the country and performed as the lead singer in a band called Cork N Classics as well as a soloist at several weddings and state/county fairs throughout the Midwest. His passion and commitment to stage presence made him a fan favorite wherever he performed.
Steve’s other passion was in the world of comic book collecting. It started with a 1975 purchase of Shazam #18 purchased at R&K News, when he was in the 7th grade at the age of 13. He went on to be a collector of Marvel and DC comic book publications throughout the years and he even met Stan Lee, the father of Marvel comics, in 1989 at the Chicago Comicon in the autograph center.
He was an avid cruiser, haven taken many throughout the years. It was there where he relaxed, explored different cultures, as well as embraced the entertainment that was offered on the vessels.
Steve will be greatly missed but will never be forgotten. Our loss is heaven’s gain. Special thanks to the entire medical team at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie.
Steven Mattox is survived by his sister, Joan (Dan); his niece, Raven; aunt, Mae; uncle; Wilbert extended family in Milwaukee, as well as a host of cousins.
He is preceded in death by his son, Kyle and his parents, William and Helen Mattox.
