Robert Astrup Sturino was born on June 16, 1953, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to parents Samuel Joseph Sturino and Aslaug Meyer Hansen Sturino. Robert attended elementary and high school in Kenosha before finishing his secondary education abroad in Stavanger, Norway. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Art in 1977. He worked in ski retail and later software QA engineering until he retired.
Robert lived with his wife Tian Sturino and daughter, Mona Sturino in the Chicago, Illinois area until 2014. Then, he and his family moved to Austin, Texas. Robert passed away from cancer on February 12, 2026, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 72.
Robert is survived by his wife and daughter, as well as his brothers David and Samuel Sturino.
To his loved ones, Robert has always been known as “Bob”. Everyone who knew Bob knew how much he loved the arts, culture, and history. Whether he was playing the bass guitar, painting, or writing, his passion and creativity were apparent. Many friends and family also remember Bob as a friendly tour guide, as he loved to share his favorite spots and stories of the Chicago area, as well as many places in Europe and Asia as well.
SERVICES:
Celebration of Life will be held in the Chicago area in early April (additional details TBD).
Burial ceremony will occur on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Ridgewood Memorial Park, 9900 N Milwaukee Ave, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
