Nathan Edward Walker, age 47, of Mount Pleasant, WI, passed away peacefully at home on April 4th, 2026, after a valiant fight with cancer.
Born on April 10, 1978, in Waukegan, IL, to James and Cyndi (Hamlet) Walker. He attended Our Lady of Humility Elementary School in Beach Park, IL, and St. Joseph High School in Kenosha, WI. He graduated with an associate’s degree from College of Lake County and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He completed the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, WI, and completed his MBA at Cardinal Stritch University. Starting as a part-time teller in 1996, he spent nearly three decades at North Shore Trust and Savings in Waukegan, culminating in his final role as CEO and President. In true entrepreneurial spirit, he opened Rookies Sports Bar (2004-2005) in Kenosha with his friend Zach Garcia.
A fitness enthusiast, he loved cycling, running, and weightlifting. He completed two marathons and numerous half marathons. The perfect weekend for him was spending time at the family’s cabin in Wisconsin Dells with a cocktail and snuggling with his beloved private nurse, Teenie Felicia Walker, his 30lb potato of a French Bulldog. He loved music, watching his son play basketball, and his daughter swim. He served on the Siena Catholic Schools of Racine board of directors. He also served on the board of the NSTS Charitable Foundation. In addition, he was always willing to roll up his sleeves and help a friend, neighbor, or colleague.
He loved his family and friends with every fiber of his being, which pushed him to fight the cancer from every angle, sharing his journey candidly and openly on his Caring Bridge website. He often brought new treatment ideas to his doctors, which were met with open arms and true collaboration in patient-centered care.
He is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Dr. Katie Walker (Kruse), son Bingham, and daughter Tatum. His mother, Cyndi Pleasant, and stepfather, Mark Pleasant. Father-in-law Richard (Dick) Kruse. Brother-in-law, Kurt Kruse (Kristie), nieces, Kilie, Khloe, and Kenzie Kruse, and brother-in-law Sam Kruse (Dee). Nate truly believed that friends are the family you choose and leaves behind a host of beloved friends including: frequent travel companions Zach and Lynn (Johnson) Garcia and their children Lyza and Arden, Bart and Kim (Jensen) Bohat and their sons Ben and Brady, Joe and Melissa (Shuler) Andreoli, and Jeff and Erin (Shuler) Schabel and daughters Hannah Amann, Rylie, and Reese Pritchard. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Walker, mother-in-law, Bonnie (Zierk) Kruse; and brother-in-law Kevin Kruse.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Nathan on Friday, April 17th, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 714 49th Street, Kenosha, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 a.m. as we come together in faith to honor his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Kesem at Marquette University – the camp that Bingham and Tatum have attended for the past three summers, which provides free summer camps and year-round support for children whose parents are affected by cancer (https://donate.kesem.org/team/772342) or Man Up to Cancer, a group that supported Nathan through his cancer journey (https://manuptocancer.org/). The family would like to thank Dr. Choi and Dr. Sahajpal at Ascension Hospital, as well as the countless nurses, navigators, and staff, for considering every option and always including and welcoming him in collaborating on a treatment plan during his courageous battle.
