December 8, 1934 — January 14, 2026
Elkhorn
Kathryn “Katie” M. Larsen, age 91 of Elkhorn, Wi, died peacefully at Mercy Walworth Hospital surrounded by her loving family on January 14, 2026, and is now reunited with the love of her life. Katie was the daughter of the late William and Esther (Breuser) Seymour, born on December 8, 1934. Katie married Roger A. Larsen on September 17, 1953, in Elkhorn, WI; they raised their family together and built a life of memories until the time of his passing in January 2025. Katie was a familiar face in Elkhorn, taking many jobs, including working at The Sterlingworth, then as the office manager with Dr. Kathy Truesdale’s Dentist Office, and lastly working for the Elkhorn City Light and Water Commission. Upon retirement from there, she worked more than 20 years at Evergreen Golf Club in the pro shop and dining room, creating friendships and memories with both employees and guests.
Katie was a member of the Elkhorn Junior Women’s Club for many years and was a poll worker for the City of Elkhorn for decades. Katie loved the game of bridge and was a member of many bridge clubs over the years. She coached softball when her kids were younger, and loved to attend her kids’, grandkids, and great grandkids sporting events as they grew up. Katie took the role of grandma very seriously; always willing to watch, play with, or help all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even as a chauffeur. She had a sassy yet loving sense of humor that would light up every room. Katie was an avid reader and a member of the Red Hat Society, greatly enjoying the people she met during that time. She had a love for flowers, but only if someone else got their hands dirty planting them for her. However, Katie’s favorite hobby was knitting; she made sure everyone had their pick of hats, but most importantly, baby blankets that her family members would cherish forever! One of Katie’s proudest accomplishments was when she formed the local chapter of Compassionate Friends, an organization that helped families who suffered the loss of a child, in memory of her own daughter, Penny.
Katie is survived by her children; Libbie VanderVeen, Eric (Darsie) Larsen, Heidi (Paul) McGraw; grandchildren; Becky (Luke) Stallings, Bradley (Lindsay) VanderVeen, Gregg (Brittany) VanderVeen, Jacob (Holly) Larsen, Carly (Russ Snopek) Larsen, Kelly (Matt) Ranallo, Maggie (Alex) Wales; 15 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly; sisters-in-law; Kitty Buhl, Marlyne Seymour; brother-in-law; Walter Larsen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Katie is preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her parents; daughter, Penelope Larsen; son-in-law, Curt VanderVeen; and siblings, William Seymour, Anne Soffa, Dan Seymour, and Mary French.
