It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karl D. Sovich, who left us peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the age of 76. He was born on December 9, 1949, to the late Walter and Susan (Breigenzer) Sovich. lived a full and meaningful life, touching those around him with his kind spirit, steady presence, and gentle sense of humor.
Karl proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1971 through 1977. Following the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Turkey, an experience that became an important chapter in his life and service.
After his time in the military, Karl worked as a maintenance technician for Avery Company in Waukegan, Illinois, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability.
Karl found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, especially the many trips he shared with his nephew, Mike. Together, they created countless memories on adventures that included fishing excursions up north to Hayward, road trips to Nevada, and annual visits to the Memphis in May and BBQ Festivals. Even their travels in unreliable vehicles became part of the story, another tale to laugh about later.
He enjoyed attending local car shows and had a deep appreciation for motorcycles and the freedom they gave him. Karl was a fan of action movies, Svengoolie, and classic sci-fi. He also had a unique taste in music, delighting in unexpected combinations, like AC/DC mixed with Mariah Carey, always finding joy in blending styles as uniquely as he lived his life.
Karl will be lovingly remembered by his nephew, Michael (Laura) Sovich; his sister-in-law, Kazue Sovich; and his loyal four-legged companion, Keiko, who will especially miss their daily games of tug and time spent together. He had a special way of brightening family gatherings, and his presence will be profoundly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Susan Sovich, and his brother, Eugene Sovich.
Private services will be held in his honor.
