Edward J. Petges, 89, of Burlington, passed away Monday, February 23, 2026, at Lakeland Health Care Center.
Born in Elmhurst, Illinois, on July 2, 1936, he was the son of Edward and Wilma Petges. On August 10, 1957, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Carlson. Following marriage, they moved to Wisconsin and farmed in Wheatland Township. After 25 years on the farm, they moved to Burlington and drove a semi for Katzman Trucking.
Ed enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears games. He also enjoyed feeding the birds and gardening. He loved spending time with family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his children, Carol Degen, Cathy (Steve) Schilz, Jack ( Margie) Petges and Andy Petges; grandchildren, Mike (Stephanie) Schilz, Brian Schilz, Mark (Dawn) Petges, Pam (Eric) Glas, Kevin (Chelsea) Petges, Sarah (Matt) Steele, Haley (Tony) Aker, Reid Petges, Leah (Greg) Kuhfuss, Sarah (Tony) DeBartolo, Luke Blair, Sam (Corey) Lawler, Jordan (Bubba) Laho, Melanie (Brayden) Naef, and Lizzy (Kevin Hein) Petges; great-grandchildren, Adam, Ashlyn, Finley, Kennedy, Elnora and Blake Petges, Olivia Schilz, Isaac, Annora, and Owen Steele, Landon, Evelyn and Leona Aker, Blake and Zoey Lawler, Kash, and Beau Hein; and Lyle and Baby Boy Laho; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Ken Petges, son-in-law Robert Degen, in-laws Ken and Helen Carlson; siblings, Walter and Bernice Petges, Carl Carlson, Judy Rogers, Leroy Walker, Gary Eckman, and Larry Carlson, and nephew Keith Dauel.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
