With heavy hearts and a deep sense of gratitude for the life he shared with us, we announce the peaceful passing of Stanley Herman Haney on June 26, 2026. He was a foundation of love and laughter for those who knew him, and he left this world surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Waukegan, IL, on November 15, 1935, to Stanley and Louise (Henke) Haney, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Melvin and Lyle, and sister Faye Skovsted. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Kay, with whom he shared a journey filled with love and joy. Together they raised three children: Krista (Dan) Long, Michael (Andrea) Haney, and Eric (Brooke) Haney. He is survived by his brother, Jerry (Sophie) Haney. He leaves behind a legacy of love for his 8 grandchildren: Andrew Long, Adam Long, Matthew Haney, Chelsie Aloisi, Blythe Haney, Paige Haney, Chloe Haney, and Brighton Haney. His spirit and humor will live through his 5 great-grandchildren: Landyn Long, Dillon Long, Loic Aloisi, Owen Aloisi, and Otis Aloisi. He is fondly referred to as the favorite uncle by his many nieces and nephews.
Stanley served in the Army from 1958 to 1960 in Groβachsenheim, Germany. Following his discharge, he returned to Racine and served a 4-year apprenticeship for masonry with Johnson Hendrickson Construction Co., working for local contractors. He later worked as a mason at Great Lakes Naval Base, Public Works, retiring in 1997.
After marrying Kay Zick in 1965, their union was blessed with summers in northern Wisconsin with family, where he enjoyed fishing, swimming, board games, and creating treasured memories. In their later years, Stanley and Kay found joy in traveling, strengthening bonds at Army Reunions of the B Battery Third Missile Battalion with whom he served in Germany.
His life was marked by service to both his country and community. His hands, skilled in masonry, were equally adept at helping and fixing whatever needed repairing, as well as at embracing and enjoying his many friends.
A man of faith, Stanley was an active member of Faithbridge Church, a community that became an extension of his family. His friends from Faithbridge were a joy and an inspiration throughout his life.
Stanley was known for his infectious sense of humor, welcoming smile, and ability to make everyone feel valued and loved. His legacy of kindness, humor, and love will remain with those he left behind, and he will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the many friends and family who have provided support and love during these last few months. Special thanks are extended to the Aurora at Home Hospice team, especially nurses Jenny, Alexis, and Barb, for their care and kindness.
Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory on Sunday, July 12, 2026, for a visitation from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A service celebrating Stan’s life will follow at 4:00 pm with Rev. Jessica Graham officiating. Military Honors will follow. A private interment will take place at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Racine Public Library Bookmobile or the Faithbridge Church Senior Ministry are suggested.
