Check on Neighbors — Especially Older Adults
High temperatures carry serious health risks, particularly for older adults who are more susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The city notes that many seniors live alone and may not have air conditioning or easy access to help.
A phone call or a quick check-in can make a real difference. When reaching out to family, friends, and neighbors, make sure they are:
- Staying hydrated with plenty of water\n- Keeping cool indoors, preferably with air conditioning
- Aware of local cooling centers and community resources
- Not showing signs of heat-related illness — confusion, dizziness, nausea, or headaches are warning signs that require immediate attention\
If someone is showing signs of heat stroke — hot and dry skin, confusion, or loss of consciousness — call 911 immediately.
