Richard N. Nelson, 89, of Kenosha County, WI., passed away on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026, at the Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha, WI. Richard was born in Bristol, WI., on June 28th, 1936, to his parents, Nemer and Emma (Schaumberg) Nelson. He was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Joan (Schwenn) Nelson, who passed away in 2007.
Richard was a lifelong resident of Kenosha County. After he retired from the Army and married Joan, they started and co-owned Camp Lake Garage, where they both worked side jobs to help raise their family. After Camp Lake Garage was sold, Richard became a full-time over-the-road truck driver and retired as a teamster. Richard then spent his days as a bus driver for the Wheatland school district and became close to the families and children that would be on his route. Richard loved his family; he loved being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will truly be missed.
Richard is survived by his children: Theresa Popp, Jeanna Nelson, and Emma Nelson. His sister, Janice Sandberg. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Brandi, Steven, Christopher, Danielle, Jennifer, Sandra, Michelle, Erika, Richard III, Karah, Mathew, Nichole, Michele, Amanda, Bud, Joshua, Jessica, Joseph, Ryan, and several great-grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Joan, his parents, and his children: Wayne, Richard Jr., Robert, and Linda.
Funeral services for Richard will be held on Monday, June 29th, 2026, service starts at 1:00 P.M. at Haase-Lockwood and Associates funeral home, 620 Legion Drive, Twin Lakes, WI., 53181. A visitation will be held at the same location starting at 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Richard’s burial will then take place right after the service at Wilmot Cemetery.
