The Kenosha community is invited to kick off summer with one of its longest-running traditions, the 48th Annual Kenosha YMCA Firecracker 5K Run/Walk, presented by Uline, taking place Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Library Park along Kenosha’s scenic lakefront.
Hosted by the Kenosha YMCA, the Firecracker 5K offers a family-friendly atmosphere, welcoming runners, walkers, and participants of all ages and abilities. The event features both a timed 5K race and a 1-mile fun run, making it an ideal outing for competitive runners and families alike.
The USATF-certified course highlights Kenosha’s lakefront harbor and historic district, with four water stations to support participant safety. The race begins at 8:30 a.m., with day-of registration and packet pickup available from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. at Library Park.
Registration includes a T-shirt and participant medal (while supplies last).

- $38 (June 1 through June 25)
- $48 last-chance registration (June 27, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Kenosha YMCA)
Awards will be presented immediately following the race for the 5K event, including overall male and female winners and top finishers across age groups.
In addition to participants, the event is seeking community volunteers for race-day support. Volunteers receive a free T-shirt and a one-week pass to the Kenosha YMCA.

The 48th Annual Firecracker 5K Run/Walk continues under the leadership of Tenille Thornton, Health & Wellness Director at the Kenosha YMCA. A respected local fitness expert and community advocate, Thornton is known for her dynamic workout classes and instructional content featured on the Kenosha YMCA video platform. Her commitment to health, wellness, and community engagement makes her a natural leader for this long-standing Kenosha tradition.
Now in its 48th year, the Firecracker Run/Walk remains more than a Fourth of July celebration. It is a cornerstone community event that brings people together while showcasing the Kenosha YMCA’s year-round impact on local families.
“There’s so much happening at the Y during the summer,” said Thornton. “This event brings the community together, celebrates the season, and highlights the many ways we support Kenosha families.”
