Daniel Jucius, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, WI, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026, after an extended illness. Dan was a prior resident of Kenosha, WI, and Winthrop Harbor, IL, where he attended local schools and later raised a family with his wife, Peggy, whom he married in Mio, MI on April 19, 1980.
Dan lived a life of community service, beginning as a young man involved in Boy Scouts, obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout while in Troop 67 from Winthrop Harbor and being elected into the Order of the Arrow, as well as his more than 20 years as a police officer, first in neighboring Zion and then spending the majority of his career in Winthrop Harbor, before retiring and exploring other career opportunities. He was proud to participate in Scouting activities when his sons were children, later when his daughter co-founded a Venturing crew, and lastly as a proud papa of grandchildren who obtained Eagle Scout status or are close to earning that high achievement.
Before his illness, Dan enjoyed travelling with his family; outdoor activities, including camping, hiking, kayaking, and drowning worms while his daughter Kristina whispered to the fish and caught them as his fishing line remained slack; as well as marksmanship activities – particularly archery and an annual Easter Peep skeet shooting event with his sons Steven and Michael, and other family. Dan also truly loved spending time with all six of his grandchildren, together and separately, and was immensely proud of all their talents.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of nearly 46 years, Peggy; children, Steven (HyeSon) Jucius, Michael (Christina) Jucius, and Kristina (Thomas) Overocker; grandchildren, Hannah, Jena, Audrey, Robert, Grant, and Sara; dear childhood friend, partner on the WHPD, and brother in spirit, Bill (Siobhan) Peacy and family; nephews, Joshua Johnson, Justin Parshall; niece, Brianna Richardson, and their families; several close cousins, including Star Strickland, Michael Jucius, Venita Alford, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Aldona Jucius; his brother, David Jucius; nephew, John Jucius; parents-in-law, Bill and Ellen Alford; sister-in-law, Barbara Colemere, and her husband, Steven; close cousin and another brother in spirit, Bill Niergarth; as well as other extended family members.
While Dan was a man of faith, he asked for no funeral services; instead, the family will host a celebration of life at a later date. The family requests no flowers. If you feel compelled to honor Dan’s memory, please send donations to your local Scout Troop in his name.
