Makayla M. Rutka, 28, of Kenosha, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at her home.
Born in Burlington, Wisconsin, on December 12, 1997, she was the daughter of Robert Rutka and Melissa Bruce. Her early life was spent in Burlington, and she later earned her teaching certificate and EMT certificate. She lived in Texas for 4 years before moving to Kenosha 3 years ago.
Makayla was a teacher for Kenosha Public Schools and was a former Kenosha County correctional officer. She was a member of Great Lakes Church. She loved music, being a mother, and spending time with her family. She loved animals, especially dogs, was always smiling, and was very proud of her kids.
Makayla is survived by her parents, Melissa (Aaron Pletz) Bruce and Robert Rutka; grandparents, Jeanine Bruce and Colleen Hungelmann; children, Charlotte, Alex, and Benji; and siblings, Domonick (Andrea Gomez) Rutka, Jordan Peterson, Ashton Peterson, Reese (Mackenzie) Mendez, Maya Pletz, and Maleah Rutka. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Steven Falkowski.
The family would like to thank the Kenosha Fire and Rescue responders, the Kenosha Police Department, the Kenosha County Medical Examiners’ Office, and her beloved friend Sam for their care during this time.

Services for Makayla will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 7 PM at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 4 to 6:30 PM at the FUNERAL HOME.
